Lose weight in 30 minutes

If that’s not a clickbaity title I’m not sure what is. Full disclosure, I do not know what will work for you to consistently lose weight. But I do know what worked for me.

In the show today I discuss these different methods that I have applied in order to become healthier. Some of my methods include yoga, stretching, keto-type diets, sauna, and new shoes.

Pork Rinds are traditionally viewed as a snack for fat people, but in the keto diet, they are a great replacement for snacks like pretzels or potato chips.

Dough-Boy Dad

In order to be successful in anything in life, there must be a tangible motivation. This for me was becoming a parent for the first time. I absolutely hate the idea of a “dad bod” or as I refer to it, dough-boy dad.

I was well on my way to being one. During my wife’s pregnancy, I stepped on the scale and realized that I was fatter than I had ever been in my life. Even though I went to the gym rather routinely, there seemed to be a bunch of other variables that needed adjustment.

The main one was for sure diet and nutrition. Based on influential podcasts that I had stumbled across at the time (a poor attempt to not say Joe Rogan), I discovered the keto diet and other factors that lead to a more productive diet. If you don’t know what keto is, it is basically the banishment of sugar from your diet and treating carbs as a necessary evil by limiting your intake to 50g a day. This, as I discuss, was a great factor in my overall loss of 39lbs in about 7 months.

Inflammation

Another problem that I had run into based on a poor diet and lack of mitigating action, was inflammation in my joints after exercise. This was especially the case for my knees, which severely cut into my cardio. I was also developing more shoulder pain which was starting to cut into my lifting routines as well. I was able to make a huge dent in this pain by changing my diet and using the sauna at my gym. The knee pain is pretty much non-existent now and the shoulder pain has decreased substantially.

Another thing that I discovered for shoulder pain and other discomfort was stretching. This included adding some yoga to all of my routines and hanging at the end. Hanging from a pull-up bar has cut down on shoulder pain quite a bit. The yoga has contributed to less pain as well and has helped increase strength.

Not exactly new looking anymore, these shoes have greatly improved my running experience, especially on trails.

New Shoes

I also started running in barefoot shoes, which are the weird-looking shoes that separate your toes. I have always had a similar opinion on these shoes as I did about yoga, but now I will swear by both of them for increasing strength and agility. I was having problems running on trails with regular shoes, as I had almost broken my ankle by coming down wrong of my foot. After a period of getting used to the barefoot shoes and building up the foot strength to really run in them, I now use these shoes exclusively for running.
