Episode 0023
The realization that I don’t really know anything becomes more apparent with everything that I read and consume. This has created a little bit of a reluctance to post content on the site and I have had to fight this apprehension. The best way I have found to move forward is to convince myself that there is really no reason why I should not be broadcasting the things that interest me in the most entertaining way that I can (so far). So, I don’t really know but why should that stop me?
The things I don’t know about consciousness
Consciousness is a phenomenon that no one has really been able to explain. I recently listened to a post-modernist show (Thaddeus Russel’s Unregistered) about the idea of our consciousness projecting reality the way that we see it. This means that the actual parameters of reality do not necessarily have to resemble anything that we observe. This seems problematic, but there is a lot more I have to take in to really explain why.
I also read an article about consciousness and why it is probably not a result of evolution. I found this to be a rather interesting take that I agreed with, for what that is worth. The author’s main point is that the qualitative nature of consciousness sets it apart from the quantitative nature of evolution. Basically, there is a large discrepancy between how information is organized mathematically and how it is observed and experienced by individuals (how things make us feel).
Other matters of interest
Speaking of how things make me feel. In preparation for this particular who I compiled a list of things that are interesting and things that are not:
Things that are interesting
- The universe and its vast mystery
- The breaking down of laws of nature
- Quantum physics versus relativity
- Human consciousness and our inability to really understand it
- The implications from all of this that there is a creator
- How this affects me as an individual
- What can I create from the knowledge of these things
- Is this really all just a waste of time
- The human propensity to give up based on the natural inclination to conserve energy
- Depression and its ubiquity
- Why men cannot rule themselves and must rely on others
- What a truly free-market system might look like
- The economics of true freedom
- The limitations placed on freedom by revelation (why we can’t see God and live)
Things that are not interesting
- Anything that someone who is obsessed with the removal of the president says
- Anything that the president says/ does
- Voting for one or the other boring old white/orange guy
